From storytellers to storyfeelers

At Braille 200, we’re always on the lookout for unique ideas involving Braille. And recently, we came across something in Amsterdam that we just have to share with you.

At the Tactile Reading & Graphics Conference 2025 in Amsterdam, Alexandre Ilic from France presented his comic and manga activities with blind children and youngsters in Paris. They are made with tactile drawings and braille of swell paper. The manga “The totem of the chimeras” tells the story of Leo and Laya who are guardians of Avalon. They need to find and catch a dangerous chimera which boke out from pison. They have to travel far and go by ship to an island where they finally see the castle of the chimeras in the mountains. Will tey be able to catch the chimera?

A picture showing two pages of an opened tactile comic book. The page on the left contains two panels. The first shows the head of young woman with a bowl haircut talking. In braille she says: “I hear something! What is it!?” On the second panel a young man with spikey hair responds: “It’s coming from the trees behind us! “ The page on the right is filled by one big panel. It contains the silhouette of the two people looking over the landscape. In the distance there are three trees, a castle surrounded by mountains, and a crescent moon overlooking the scene. The man says: “Yes, from here we can see the castle in the distance. “
