The Braillefinders in Action: Bad Nauheim

This time, our Braillefinders made their way to the beautiful town of Bad Nauheim in Hesse.
There, they discovered a particularly fine example of a tactile map.
As always, they’ve brought along a photo and a detailed description to share with you.
A true Braille masterpiece – definitely worth touching when visiting Bad Nauheim!

A photo of an outdoor orientation map displayed on a tactile plaque. The map presents the layout of the Gesundheitsgarten am Gradierbau II, in the town of Bad Nauheim.

The map uses color and texture to indicate different surfaces:
• Color Green represent lawns and Green areas.
• Yellow paths indicate sandy walkways.
• In the center of the map, a large horizontal brown rectangle marks the Gradierbau II, labeled in Standard Text and Braille.

At the top right corner of the plaque is the logo of the town of Bad Nauheim, a QR-Code symbol, and the following information written in both standard alphabet and Braille: QR-Code scannen für weitere Informationen.

At the top left of the plaque, the title “Gesundheitsgarten am Gradierbau II” appears in both standard German Text and Braille.
To the left of the map is a numbered legend in Braille corresponding to the 17 Erlebnisstationen marked throughout the garden.

To the right of the map, the same legend is shown in printed German text:
Erlebnisstationen:
1. Strandkörbe
2. Fitnessparcours
3. Barfußpfad
4. Pavillon
5. Bruchsteine
6. Insektenhotel
7. Sandspielbereich

11. Kur-Liege
12. Partnerschaukel
13. Kräutergarten
14. Trinkbrunnen
15. Kneippbecken
16. Innere Balance

At the bottom of the plaque, there is a symbol legend labeled “Legende”, showing the meaning of various icons used on the map. Each label is written in both standard script and Braille:
• Standort
• Eingang
• Erlebnisstationen
• Grünflächen
• Wand
• Sand

At the lower right corner of the plaque, a map scale is shown: 20 m. Above the scale, a north arrow indicates that the top of the map is oriented to the north.
