Summer, Sun and Sizzlecraft

It’s honestly a lot of fun to see just how many ways Braille can be represented.
You can stick it, lay it out, set it up, press it into surfaces, arrange it with people, embroider it and now things are heating up: in summer, you can even burn Braille into a surface using sunlight and a magnifying glass.
Yes, some folks from the Braille 200 crowd really do come up with some pretty bizarre ideas.
The best part? You don’t need much to make it work.
Just take a sheet with pre-marked dots, place it on a wooden board, aim the magnifying glass and let the sun do it’s thing. A little focus, a little smoke, and voilà: Braille by sunlight.
Especially amusing: the holes burned into the board aren’t really tactile but they’re definitely easy to smell. And the paper template? It turns into a very special kind of punch card.
We’ll be showing you the results in pictures here:

First, the wooden board with the words “Braille 200” more or less neatly burned in.

And of course, the thoroughly toasted sheet of paper with tiny holes right where the dots were marked.
As we said: The sun really did its thing.

Normally, this would be the part where we encourage you to try something like this at home.
But… well. Maybe not this time.
We care just a little too much about your house, your yard, and your garden.
