Review of the reading day in Quickborn

With our current post, we are taking a short break from the readings. But don’t worry, there are still some real highlights in store for you in the coming days.
Of course, we are still sticking to the topic. This time, we present Giuseppina Dolle’s report on the reading event in Quickborn last Friday.

A hungry caterpillar, a “scatterbrained grandpa,” and then the NDR—there was a lot going on today at the reading day at the Quickborn City Library

“We regularly offer picture book cinema, but today in a completely different form,” said Kerstin Kranz, deputy director of the Quickborn City Library. The city library gladly accepted the offer to organize the “picture book cinema” with a Braille reading as part of the nationwide reading day. With just a few arrangements with members of the Pinneberg district group of the Schleswig-Holstein Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (BSVSH), the afternoon was organized and children aged 5 to 10, their parents, and grandparents were informed and invited. The fact that NDR also announced its visit on Tuesday added to the excitement and anticipation among those involved.

At 3:30 p.m., around 30 listeners of all ages spread out on cushions and chairs and were briefly introduced to Braille by Giuseppina Dolle from the BSVSH using an egg carton. And then it was time to begin:

While Giuseppina Dolle read the relief picture book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” designed by Blista Marburg, Kerstin Kranz showed the printed picture book at the same time. Afterwards, young and old alike were allowed to touch the relief book – “The dots feel nice,” said a small child in the NDR report broadcast that evening on Schleswig-Holstein-Magazin.

Excerpts from the book “The Day Grandpa Put the Kettle on the Stove” by Marc-Uwe Kling, also read aloud in Braille with accompanying pictures, elicited some laughter.

Afterwards, the aids and everyday objects with Braille presented on a table could be viewed and tried out. While some “wrote” their names with Braille Lego bricks, others took home a strip of paper with their names printed in Braille.

“It was a great afternoon,” said Kerstin Kranz, summarizing her impressions. Carmen Nowald from the regional group hopes that further joint events will follow.

Eine hungrige Raupe, ein “schusseliger Opa” und dann noch der NDR – beim Vorlesetag in der Stadtbücherei Quickborn war heute viel los

“Wir bieten regelmäßig das Bilderbuchkino an, heute jedoch in ganz anderer Form”, so Kerstin Kranz, stellvertretende Leiterin der Stadtbücherei Quickborn. Gern nahm die Stadtbücherei das Angebot an, im Rahmen des bundesweiten Vorlesetages das “Bilderbuchkino” mit einer Braille-Lesung zu gestalten. Mit nur wenigen Absprachen mit Mitgliedern der Regionalgruppe Kreis Pinneberg im Blinden- und Sehbehindertenverein Schleswig-Holstein e. V. (BSVSH) war der Nachmittag organisiert und Kinder von 5 bis 10 Jahren, ihre Eltern und Großeltern informiert und eingeladen. Dass am Dienstag zusätzlich der NDR sein Kommen ankündigte, sorgte bei den Beteiligten außerdem für Spannung und Aufregung.

Um 15:30 Uhr verteilten sich rund 30 kleine und große Zuhörende auf Sitzkissen und Stühlen und wurden von Giuseppina Dolle vom BSVSH unter Nutzung eines Eierkartons kurz in die Brailleschrift eingeführt. Und dann ging’s auch schon los:

Während Giuseppina Dolle das von der Blista Marburg gestaltete Relief-Bilderbuch “Die kleine Raupe Nimmersatt” las, zeigte Kerstin Kranz parallel dazu das gedruckte Bilderbuch. Anschließend durften Groß und Klein das Relief-Buch betasten – “Fühlt sich schön an, die Punkte”, äußerte ein kleines Kind im abends ausgestrahlten NDR-Beitrag im Schleswig-Holstein-Magazin.

Einiges Gelächter ernteten Auszüge aus dem Buch “Der Tag, an dem Opa den Wasserkessel auf den Herd gestellt hat” von Marc-Uwe Kling, ebenfalls in Braille vorgelesene Text, dessen Bilder parallel gezeigt wurden.

Im Anschluss konnten die auf einem Tisch präsentierten Hilfsmittel und mit Braille versehenen Alltagsgegenstände angesehen und ausprobiert werden. Während die einen ihren Namen mit Braille-Legosteinen “schrieben”, nahmen andere einen Papierstreifen mit ihrem in Braille gedruckten Namen mit nach Hause.

“Das war ein toller Nachmittag”, fasst Kerstin Kranz ihre Eindrücke zusammen. Carmen Nowald von der Regionalgruppe hofft, dass weitere gemeinsam durchgeführte Veranstaltungen folgen werden.
