Thank you very much, Magdalena, for this positive contribution!
The movie
Our Braille fingers (Nasze Brajlowskie dłonie)
The film is a five-minute reportage-style piece that follows an 18-year-old-boy, Damian, as he attends therapy sessions. It opens with him arriving at the therapy centre. The therapist preparing the workplace, setting a calm and focused atmosphere. Throughout the film, we witness their step-by-step work on learning Braille. We can also listen to a fragment of one of Damian’s many conversations with his therapist. Damian practices reading Braille text, feeling the raised dots with his fingers, and slowly gaining confidence. He also learns to write on a Braille typewriter, focusing on hand positioning, precision and rhythm. The film captures multiple elements of this learning process: the therapist demonstrating techniques, Damian correcting mistakes, close-ups of Braille sheets, his facial expressions of concentration and occasional frustration, and moments of encouragement from the therapist. We also see Damian organizing his material, practicing different letters and words, and combining reading and writing exercises.
The film ends on a positive note, with hands arranged like fingers on a black and white piano keyboard.
