We at Braille 200 have already created a lot of pictures and videos of our Braille 200 writing from a wide variety of things.
Candy, safety pins, paper boats, to name just a few.
This week, we’re shifting the focus to the virtual realm: the representation of Braille in video games.
Surprisingly, Braille can be represented very well in some games in creative ways.
In some of the games, we didn’t just implement the lettering, but also built a little story around it.
The result is a few beautiful works of art in video form.
We’re starting today with a representation of Braille in the game Terraria.
The game is a modern classic with a similar concept to Minecraft.
This means that the entire world you walk around in consists of mineable blocks of various kinds, from which you can then build anything you can imagine.
It is very possible that no one else has represented Braille in this game before us. In any case, we haven’t found anything on YouTube.
Here is the video description and below it the link to our YouTube video.
Video description
An adventurer in the 2D sandbox game Terraria decorates her newly built house for the Braille anniversary. The video starts with a purple-haired adventurer in pixelated retro-game visuals leaving a cave. She approaches her box-shaped four-story building. The two lower floors have wooden walls, some barebones furniture, and are lit by two torches, whereas the two upper floors are still completely empty. The adventurer jumps up floor by floor until she is at the top. There she starts placing three stone blocks on top of each other. Then she removes the lowest block with a pickaxe so that the remaining two blocks can be interpreted as braille “b”. The video then speeds up as she continues filling up the space with stone braille letters until the whole floor is covered in the word “braille.” The adventurer then drops down to the third floor and proceeds to write the number 200 in braille. Upon finishing, she jumps up and down four times and waves a golden star around in celebration.
