Imre Gergyes Braillepack

Braille 200 keeps things playful
This Tuesday, Imre Gergye from Hungary presents his invention, the Braillepack, which makes learning and practicing Braille fun.
Thank you, Imre, for allowing us to present your invention here at Braille 200.

The Braillepack

The closed Braillepack

A multifunctional, portable box for learning and practicing Braille for all ages, manufactured using 3D technology.

Contents:

The opened Braillepack

A hinged box, a tactile cube, and 90 pins with distinguishable patterns on both ends, rounded or smooth.

On the top of the box are 15 Braille cells arranged in 3 rows. The game is designed for practicing Braille characters individually or with several people, but can also be used for teaching Braille. It is suitable for various adapted games that can be played either individually or in pairs, such as letter search or word puzzles, battleships, or other territorial games. The Braillepack can be used by both visually impaired and sighted people, but also at awareness-raising events to introduce Braille.

The idea for the Braillepack arose from the need for a small box for practicing Braille that contains all the materials, cannot fall apart, and even fits in a pocket.
I originally invented it with a series of five cells for practice, a simple wooden letter puzzle game. Later, I modified it because I thought that three rows would fit on the lid of the relatively small box, making it suitable for other logic games. The box should provide ample space for the materials, be portable, and remain stable even when open thanks to its structure. Hence the name, based on the English “small box.”
This version was then produced using a 3D printer.

The photo shows Imre Gergye and Mónika Berke, the head of the Hungarian association, exchanging a box containing a Braille pack.

The first edition of the box is already finished, and we presented it on November 15, 2025, in Budapest at the Conference on Assistive Technology for the Blind (LESEK), where it was already available for purchase, accompanied by some of my game ideas.

In this photo, Gergye Imre and an interested person are sitting at a table. On the table are papers and a small box with white Braille cells, black pins, and a yellow die, with the Braille-Pack box being the focus of their attention.

I worked on the development for more than half a year. I very much hope that Braille will continue to spread and be preserved under today’s technical conditions, as it is very important for learning grammar and, above all, for developing logical skills. Reading Braille is a truly creative process.
I am currently not only working on developing further game ideas, but also have some ideas for another version of the Braillepack.

The Braillepack has also recently become available in the aid shop of the Hungarian Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired (MVGYOSZ) (https://bolt.mvgyosz.hu/) and can also be delivered abroad for a small surcharge.
