We’re celebrating the 200 Braille script’s birthday all year long!
And as tradition has it, no proper celebration goes without a lot of fitting poems.
This time, Hella Neukötter from Germany steps up to the task and her poem truly hits the spot.
Or should we say… hits all six dots?
Thank you, Hella! With this piece, you’ve absolutely earned yourself an extra-large slice of birthday cake!
codeswitching
his own blindness
urged the young braille
attention
to a brilliant invention
after a few years
the tour de force was ending
far from being an amorphous bending
in a precision six-dot landing
and he merry as a lark
inviting relaxation to embark
his personal luck
not intended to make a fast buck
a pure masterpiece
never meant to cease
codeswitching
die eigene erblindung
drängt den jungen braille
zu einer brillanten erfindung
nach ein paar jahren
endet die tour de force
alles andere als amorph
in einer sechs-punkt-landung
und führt so zu wachsender entspannung
das persönliche glück
ein wahres Meisterstück
