In Germany, there’s a saying: “Little lies preserve friendship.”
Its meaning can be interpreted in many ways, and everyone likely has their own opinion on it.
But sometimes, just sometimes, it turns out to be true.
Like in today’s story from Iveta Zbrankova from Slovakia., who sent us a true tale about genuine friendship.
Thank you, Iveta, for sharing these heartwarming memories from your past!
A story that lives on thanks to Mr. Braille
When we were younger, thanks to social media and then personal
friendships, we were a group of enthusiastic fans of three Czech
singers. Whenever I could, I would travel to the Czech Republic to enjoy
the wonderful atmosphere of their concerts.
One of them was truly exceptional. Mr. L. Braille deserves some of the
credit for that.
Long, long before the concert I mentioned, one of the fans with very
skilled hands wrote to me saying she needed help. She wanted to
embroider something in Braille for a blind girl. I laboriously taught
her every single letter from a distance, happy that someone would be happy.
I even forgot about my teaching when the fateful concert arrived. Of
course, the entire fan club came, and the atmosphere was amazing!
Dozens of cameras captured the great atmosphere throughout the concert
🙂.
But we couldn’t miss a group photo! So the members of Josef Voltr’s fan
club lined up nicely in front of … in front of something that I
thought was a curtain or something… A curtain? No way! That is, until
I heard: “And now we will present a beautiful gift from the Fan Club to
Sneženka (that’s been my nickname for years).” What was supposed to be a
curtain ended up, neatly folded, in my trembling hands after the photo
shoot. Oh my god! The wonderful power of friendship and solidarity of
the Fan Club was sewn into a beautiful souvenir blanket, embroidered in
the middle – in the heart made of beads was also the bead pattern of the
song ‘Čas’ “Time has given me many friends.” And it was in Braille.
Something genius!!! It completely took my breath away. A lump of emotion
rose in my throat, and at that moment, my brain couldn’t remember a
single word, and salt stung her eyes…! I realized that the “little
girl” that my friend Alenka was embroidering for was actually me. It was
more than a fairy tale!!! No one in the concert hall could have imagined
such an ending!
However, I still dream about that friendship to this day. The blanket is
my faithful companion. Every day, I remember Mr. Braille’s message,
which will surely remain alive forever!
