How can we help braille users make the most of their technology? Through our Expert Table Talks, the Braille Working Group of the European Blind Union creates a space where users, experts and manufacturers can exchange knowledge, ask questions and learn from one another.
Our spring 2026 series, “Using Your Braille Display Like a Pro”, explored four essential aspects of digital braille: connecting, consuming, controlling and creating. From connecting a display to a smartphone or computer to reading, navigating and writing, the discussions focused on practical ways to use braille more confidently and effectively.
The strength of these meetings lies in bringing different experiences together. Expert presentations provide a starting point, while participants’ questions and everyday challenges help shape the conversation. By sharing knowledge across countries, devices and operating systems, we help users discover possibilities, understand limitations and find approaches that suit their needs.
Our new series, “BBQ – Braille, Brands & Questions”, takes this exchange further by inviting manufacturers into the discussion. Users can explore the thinking behind products, ask about specific features and discuss how braille technology responds to real-life needs. For manufacturers, these conversations offer an opportunity to hear directly from the people who use their devices.
As the EBU Braille Working Group, we bring people together and make their shared knowledge available beyond each live meeting. Recordings, podcast episodes and written summaries allow a wider audience to benefit from the discussions.
Our aim is simple: to strengthen the braille community through practical knowledge and open dialogue, helping more people use digital braille for learning, work and everyday independence.
