This time, our Braille adventures don’t take us to distant worlds or times long past. No, today we’re staying at home, relaxing and having fun.
Zuzia and BJ show us how to play Hangman on a Versa Slate.
How many lives will the player lose?
Video description
The video begins with the logos of Living Braille and Braille 200. A black background then appears with the title, written in white, “Playing Hangman with the Versa Slate,” accompanied by a simultaneous voice-over.
Zuzia, seated on the right, and BJ, on the left, sit at a round white table. In the opening shot, the camera films them from the front as they talk, while Zuzia introduces BJ to a new Braille slate and suggests playing the game Hangman.
The slate is approximately 20 cm long, made of light blue plastic, and features white buttons. The stylus has a white, rounded plastic handle and is stored magnetically on the side of the slate.
At 1:23, the camera angle changes to show their hands and the slate from Zuzia’s side. By 2:14, BJ begins guessing letters to uncover the eight-letter word Zuzia has in mind. Each incorrect guess costs BJ one of his ten lives and brings the hangman closer to death. From 2:24 onward, the camera films their hands and the slate from above as they continue the game.
Whenever BJ loses a life, a photo appears in the bottom-right corner of the video, showing the hangman drawing as it forms. The hangman figure is also created on the slate with the stylus using Braille dots.
The sequence of the drawing is as follows:
<• The first lost life adds a long vertical line. • The second adds a horizontal line to the right, connecting to the top of the first line. • The third adds a diagonal line connecting the previous two lines, forming the gallows. • The fourth adds a rope hanging from the horizontal line. • The fifth adds a small square attached to the rope, representing the hangman’s head. • The sixth adds a long vertical line representing the body.
In the end, BJ successfully guesses the word “Whiskers.”
The video concludes with the Living Braille and Braille 200 logos.
