To start with, a quick reminder:

Since 2004, we in Germany have been celebrating the wonderful tradition and importance of reading aloud on the third Friday in November.
The nationwide Reading Aloud Day, which is now even celebrated beyond Germany’s borders, was launched by the Reading Foundation, ZEIT magazine, and the Deutsche Bahn Foundation.

Next Friday, it will be that time again.
Many libraries, schools, bookstores, and daycare centers will be hosting special reading events on this day.
And maybe Braille 200 will too?
After all, we’ve all been able to read aloud for 200 years!

This weekend, we would like to present two of these events where reading will be done in Braille.

Our second event is a classic reading event in Braille at the Quickborn Municipal Library.
But next Friday, Giuseppina Dolle will not only read a story there, he will also present a picture book enhanced with Braille and will be available afterwards to answer questions about Braille.

Giuseppina has also come up with something really nice for the event announcement, which we are pleased to present to you here today.

Picture book cinema with a difference – Reading in Braille for National Reading Day

Quickborn, October 21, 2025 – As part of National Reading Aloud Day, the Quickborn Municipal Library, in cooperation with the Schleswig-Holstein Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (BSVSH), is hosting a special reading on Friday, November 21, at 3:30 p.m.

Giuseppina Dolle from the Pinneberg regional group will give a brief introduction to 6-dot braille in the “picture book cinema” and then read a funny story aloud. After the reading, participants will have the opportunity to look at and touch books and other items with braille writing and ask members of the regional group questions about the everyday life of a person with visual impairment.

Children aged 5 to 10, parents, grandparents, and anyone else who is interested are cordially invited to attend the event. Participation is free of charge and registration is not required.

Giuseppina Dolle uses the 6-dot writing system every day. “I enjoy reading aloud, and it is very important to me to introduce this ingenious script, which is so important for us blind people, to children in particular,” says Giuseppina Dolle. She quickly found a partner in the team at Quickborn Municipal Library for her idea of participating in the nationwide reading day for children with a Braille reading.

The team at the municipal library is looking forward to working with the BSVSH. “The municipal library wants to promote accessibility, inclusion, and tolerance. We were very taken with the idea of giving blind and visually impaired people a platform and drawing attention to an important issue,” says Elisabeth Baumann, director of the Quickborn municipal library.

Braille, invented by Frenchman Louis Braille, celebrates its 200th anniversary this year. “The reading day at the Quickborn Municipal Library is a wonderful opportunity for us in the Pinneberg district to present Braille to the public,” adds Carmen Nowald from the regional group.

Vorlesetag 2025, Teil 2: Vorlesen in Quickborn

Noch mal zur Erinnerung:

Seit 2004 feiern wir in Deutschland an jedem dritten Freitag im November die schöne Tradition und Bedeutung des Vorlesens.
Ins Leben gerufen wurde der bundesweite Vorlesetag, der mittlerweile sogar über die Grenzen Deutschlands hinaus gefeiert wird, von der Stiftung Lesen, der ZEIT und der Deutschen Bahn Stiftung.

Nächsten Freitag ist es wieder so weit.
In vielen Bibliotheken, Schulen, Buchhandlungen und Kindertagesstätten gibt es an diesem Tag besondere Vorleseaktionen.
Und vielleicht ja auch bei Braille 200?
Denn vorlesen können wir alle ja schließlich schon seit 200 Jahren!

Dieses Wochenende wollen wir euch aber erst einmal zwei dieser Veranstaltungen präsentieren, bei denen in Braille vorgelesen wird.

Unser zweites Event ist ein ganz klassisches Vorlese-Event in der Stadtbücherei von Quickborn in Braille.
Aber Giuseppina Dolle liest nächsten Freitag dort nicht nur eine Geschichte vor, sondern präsentiert auch ein mit Braille erweitertes Bilderbuch und steht danach auch für Fragen rund um die Brailleschrift zur Verfügung.

Bilderbuchkino mal anders – Braille-Lesung zum bundesweiten Vorlesetag

Quickborn, 21. Oktober 2025 – Die Stadtbücherei Quickborn lädt im Rahmen des bundesweiten Vorlesetages in Kooperation mit dem Blinden- und Sehbehindertenverein Schleswig-Holstein e. V. (BSVSH) am Freitag, 21. November um 15:30 Uhr zu einer besonderen Lesung ein.

Giuseppina Dolle aus der Regionalgruppe Kreis Pinneberg wird im “Bilderbuchkino” die 6-Punkte-Schrift kurz vorstellen und anschließend eine lustige Geschichte vorlesen. Nach der Lesung dürfen Bücher und weitere Gegenstände mit Brailleschrift angesehen und ertastet sowie Fragen zum Alltag einer Person mit Sehbehinderung an Mitglieder der Regionalgruppe gestellt werden.

Kinder von 5 bis 10 Jahren, Eltern, Großeltern und alle weiteren Interessierten sind herzlich eingeladen, die Veranstaltung zu besuchen. Die Teilnahme ist kostenlos, eine Anmeldung ist nicht erforderlich.

Giuseppina Dolle nutzt täglich die Schrift aus 6 Punkten. “Ich lese gern vor und diese geniale und für uns Blinde so wichtige Schrift insbesondere Kindern nahezubringen, ist mir ein großes Anliegen”, so Giuseppina Dolle. Für ihre Idee, sich mit einer Braille-Lesung am bundesweiten Vorlesetag für Kinder zu beteiligen, fand sie mit dem Team der Stadtbücherei Quickborn schnell einen Kooperationspartner.

Das Team der Stadtbücherei freut sich auf die Zusammenarbeit mit dem BSVSH. „Die Stadtbücherei möchte Barrierefreiheit, Inklusion und Toleranz stärken. “Wir waren sehr von der Idee angetan, blinden und sehbehinderten Menschen eine Plattform geben und auf ein wichtiges Thema aufmerksam machen zu können“, teilt Elisabeth Baumann, Leiterin der Stadtbücherei Quickborn, mit.

Die von dem Franzosen Louis Braille erfundene Blindenschrift feiert in diesem Jahr ihr 200-jähriges Bestehen. „Der Vorlesetag in der Stadtbücherei Quickborn ist für uns im Kreis Pinneberg ein schöner Anlass, Braille öffentlich zu präsentieren“, ergänzt Carmen Nowald von der Regionalgruppe.
